Faculty love of learning is at the heart of the enthusiasm and dedication
Greenwood teachers bring to their work. Greenwood’s faculty members
are highly qualified and experienced, many hold advanced degrees,
and their average tenure is over nine years. To address the needs
of students with dyslexia and other language-based learning issues,
our teachers have demonstrated competency either at the Greenwood
School or elsewhere, and they work continually to improve the practice
of their skills.
Our teachers are fully trained and certified in multi-sensory
remedial language techniques through the Greenwood Institute. They
have received training in the "Knowledge of Language," an approach
promoted by Dr. Louisa Moats, Ed.D, and in “Structured Language
Teaching," a multi-sensory approach based on the highly respected
Orton-Gillingham method. Both are proven learning techniques recommended
by leading researchers and highly regarded by educational consultants
and are integral components of The Greenwood School academic program.
This in-depth training deepens Greenwood teachers’
knowledge of the structure of language and prepares them to apply
competently remedial techniques and to tailor lessons to address
each student's specific needs. Ongoing teacher training and supervision
is also provided by a master teacher, independent consultants, and
by The Greenwod School's Headmaster.
Most of our teachers live on campus and undertake
after-school, evening, and weekend commitments to supervise, mentor,
and assist students in all aspects of student life, as well as academics,
music, the arts, school projects, sports and recreational activities.
