The Greenwood School: The Preeminent Boarding School for Boys with Learning Differences

Physical Education and Sports

students playing basketball To ensure a well-rounded curriculum that includes not only academics but also physical activity. Greenwood balances the academic efforts of our class day with a variety of seasonal sports activities and physical education, including:

  • Soccer
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Lacrosse
  • Mountain biking
  • Skateboarding
  • In-line skating
  • Rollerblading
  • Martial arts
  • Cross-country skiing
  • Downhill skiing and snowboarding

It is a requirement that students participate in some form of daily physical exercise. Competitive sports are taught as a means of increasing specific skills and coordination.

It is challenging to field a team against schools many times our size. Nevertheless, through the years Greenwood teams have earned creditable standing and several league championship soccer trophies.

The Greenwood campus includes a recreation center/gymnasium, game field, and an indoor climbing wall. Organized activities include:

  • Cooperative games
  • Rock climbing
  • Sledding
  • Ice skating
  • Canoeing
  • Fishing and ice fishing
  • Hiking
  • Camping

Greenwood encourages a non-competitive atmosphere, which promotes physical activity, enabling athletic students to advance, and facilitating a transition to team sports for students who are fearful of physical challenges.
