Students at Greenwood are provided with a reading tutorial taught by expert reading teachers. Classes incorporate a range of approaches based on our students’ needs. Some receive remediated reading using a multisensory Orton-Gillingham approach. All of our students receive research-based instruction promoting and encouraging critical thinking skills when analyzing text: both narrative and expository.

Recognized as Executive Functioning coaches by Landmark College, our teachers support students in the areas of organization, time management, study skills, and self-advocacy. We celebrate our students diverse learning styles; recognizing the need for supports and specialized instruction while providing them with rigorous individualized learning experiences.

Student team meetings involve all of a student’s teachers, where we collectively discuss his strengths and needs throughout our program; ensuring precise individualized instruction and positive learning outcomes.

We have an 11th grade student who came to us in 9th grade. He was so dyslexic he didn’t know the sounds of letters. That first year he couldn’t believe how far behind he was, learning basic letter sound relationships like the short E. We took it slow…and he started to open up.
We had team meetings to come up with a plan on how to work with him, providing the EXACT instruction needed. It was a dance between him and his tutor, until he eventually opened up to receive guidance.
Now he’s a fully invested Greenwood student, doing what HE needs to do. His comprehension and creative thinking ability is high. It’s like talking to a philosophy major, yet at one time he was not able to read.
The ultimate goal is to provide Greenwood boys with life skills that will follow them through college and beyond.
